Plans for the new Endless Summer Resort located on Park Avenue in Portsmouth, RI have been revealed! The site, a former landfill that was never properly closed, is now being closed on behalf of owner Art Palmer through DEM Waste Management so that habitat restoration and redevelopment can begin.
The 18-acre resort will include an outdoor sports complex centered around beach volleyball, beach soccer and tennis, as well as a beach entry swimming area with a lazy river. There will also be a main arena for international beach volleyball events that will be converted to an outdoor ice hockey rink during the winter.
MH Architect, LLC, Chappell & Chappell, DiPrete Engineering and Tim O’Connor & Company LLC have teamed up to complete the site’s remediation and conceptual development planning. DiPrete Engineering and the team have received Water Quality Certification, CRMC Assent and RIDEM/RIPDES permits for remediation activities and are now working to receive an onsite wastewater treatment permit for the development project.
“As someone who cares greatly about the environment, it’s really exciting to be working on this project,” said Audie Osgood, Project Manager. “Converting capped landfills into new habitats such as resorts and parks will help to correct a long-lasting environmental injustice.”
The developers are hopeful that Endless Summer Resort will open within two or three years.
