Newport, RI – April 1, 2011-- DiPrete Engineering, hosted the Newport County Chamber's “Business After Hours” event and held an open house last night. Some 200 Chamber members and DiPrete Engineering clients were in attendance at the firm's new office located at 90 Broadway across from City Hall. This is the firm's second Rhode Island location.
The fully staffed Newport office which officially opened this past December, currently services Aquidneck Island as well as Jamestown, Tiverton, and communities in Southeastern Massachusetts. The company also has an office in Cranston, RI, which provides additional support and a full complement of design and planning services such as land surveying, coastal permitting (CRMC), and septic system designs among other services.
During the open house, Dennis DiPrete, Principal of DiPrete Engineering, spoke about the company's expansion and ability to stay competitive in a tough economic environment by developing creative business solutions and most significantly, by implemented a “Lean Engineering” program. DiPrete said, “What we've done is taken some cues from Lean Manufacturing and applied them specifically to our service-oriented business. This standardized program effectively streamlines many aspects of the design and planning process and ultimately cuts costs.”
He added, “Following this customer-centric program has enabled us to provide our clients with more service for the same price. What's more, we've been able to reduce the time it takes to complete a project. As we enter our second year with our Lean Engineering, we are convinced that it works and have the numbers to prove it. In some instances we were able to reduce costs by as much as 20% ? without sacrificing quality or service. We are unaware of any other engineering firm that is employing such a program. “Coming up with creative ideas like this,” said DiPrete, “has enabled us to pass savings along to the customer and gives us a competitive edge in a highly competitive environment.”
When asked about the decision to add a second location, DiPrete said, “Over the past 20 years, we've enjoyed working on both commercial and residential projects on Aquidneck Island in various capacities including residential work in Portsmouth, the Middletown police station, work for the Navy, and most recently we were awarded a project to forward the Tiverton Industrial Park. Having a presence in Newport is essential to our growth and allows us to be closer to both existing and prospective clients in the surrounding communities. And because of our extensive expertise in environmental and coastal permitting, it just makes sense for us to be in Newport.”
DiPrete Engineering was founded in 1988 by Dennis DiPrete and has 31 employees. The firm's primary focus is civil/environmental regulatory permitting. Serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut, DiPrete Engineering provides engineering, land planning and surveying for commercial, industrial, retail, residential and multi-use projects. The firm’s clients include other engineering/design firms, land owners and developers, as well as governmental agencies.
