CRMC Approval for Village on the Waterfront

EAST PROVIDENCE – Chevron Corp.’s “Village on the Waterfront” has been endorsed by the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council, the Council announced Wednesday.

The approval clears the way for construction of the proposed 600-unit condominium project overlooking the Providence River on a 26-acre former Chevron tank farm brownfield site off Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Village on the Waterfront is the fifth project in the state to be approved under the Urban Coastal Greenway policy, which provides developers additional permitting flexibility in exchange for public access and habitat conservation considerations.

Site work at Village on the Waterfront has already begun and The Coastal Resources Management Council approval clears the way for construction of the project, which the developer hopes to start as early as next summer if there is market demand.

In addition to the condominiums, Village on the Waterfront is planned to include shops, a connection to the East Bay Bike Path, a public access pier and canoe launch ramp.
