Broadrock Renewables Landfill Gas to Energy

DiPrete Engineering is working with Broadrock Renewable Energy and Rhode Island Resource Recovery to permit a new Landfill Gas to Energy Facility. This project is the 2nd largest landfill gas to energy facility in the United States. 

This new facility will have renewable energy generating capacity of 40 MW (24,000 homes). The project team consist of a nationwide group of mechanical, civil and environmental engineers, design build professionals, land use attorneys, and landfill gas to energy experts.

The plant will use state of the art technology to extract and clean methane gas from the landfill minimizing the amount of gas that is burned off by destruction flares or released into the atmosphere. The operation of the plant begins at a gas treatment plant where sulfur and siloxane are removed from the gas. 

Once clean, the gas is piped through an underground line to the electric generation plant. This plant consist of four combustion turbines, heat recovery generators, steam turbines, and cooling towers. Newly created power will leave this plant through a series of overhead wires that will tie into National Grid's transmission lines.

 The facility is expected to be completed and in operation some time in 2013.
