The Lofts at Allen Street

Woonsocket, RI

The Lofts at Allen Street is a mill rehabilitation project located in downtown Woonsocket. The historic site is located along the banks of the Blackstone River and within the Allen Street Historic District.  The development consists of three buildings. A 42,000 sf building built in 1910 (the former Sydney Worsted Co. Mill), an 18,000 sf building built in 1922 (the former EP Herbert Knitting Mill), and a future third building designed to emulate the historic structures on site. The development site also includes a plaza, dubbed ‘History Plaza’, and a riverwalk along the Blackstone River.

The developer believes that the Allen Street Lofts will be an integral part of the renaissance of downtown Woonsocket. The 64 units are located in a historic downtown district, preserve historic architecture, and are located along a historic river. The development is also located within minutes of a variety of transportation options, including the future section of the Blackstone River Bikeway. All of these items, plus its proximity to employment options, shopping, entertainment, and dining options makes The Lofts at Allen Street truly part of a larger community. Many opportunities are located within walking distance or a short drive (or bike ride) of the site.

Smart Growth is well-planned development that protects open space and farmland, revitalizes urban, town and village centers, keeps housing affordable and expands economic opportunities and transportation choices. The Lofts at Allen Street follow many of the principles of Smart Growth. Beyond its proximity to the town center and the rehabilitation of existing structures, the units are of high quality and kept affordable to a wide range of buyers.
