DiPrete is SepticSmart

By November 4, 2019 News

Last month, DiPrete Engineering celebrated SepticSmart Week. Each year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) holds SepticSmart Week, a week focused on educating homeowners and communities on the proper care and maintenance of their septic systems.

This year, DiPrete would like to remind its clients that by protecting their septic systems, they can potentially save thousands of dollars. Here are some tips on how to preserve your system: 1) A typical septic system should be serviced every one to three years by a septic service professional 2) Ensure your septic tank is pumped at regular intervals as recommended by a professional 3) If you are on a well, test your drinking water regularly to ensure it remains clean and free of contamination.

“As a licensed soil evaluator in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, I conduct most of our firm’s soil evaluations and inspect onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS) during construction,” said Chris Sutter, Environmental Scientist at DiPrete Engineering. “Because these systems are underground, it’s really important to have them inspected on a regular basis. Without regular inspections, a system could be failing for years without the owner’s knowledge. Over time, damage to the environment can become serious and not easily fixed.”

The EPA’s SepticSmart initiative is a nation-wide public education effort with resources for local organizations, homeowners, and government leaders. To learn more about how septic systems work and get tips on how to properly maintain them, visit: https://www.epa.gov/septic
