DiPrete Engineering is proud to have contributed to the recent rail infrastructure upgrades at Quonset Business Park. These significant improvements will enhance freight rail capacity and operational flexibility, and support ongoing business growth and job creation within the park, marking a pivotal moment for Quonset and Rhode Island’s economy.
The newly completed projects include the Seaview Engine House, Mill Creek Railyard, and Davisville Main Connector. The Seaview Engine House, engineered by Quonset Development Corporation (QDC), serves as a hub for Seaview Railroad’s operations, providing essential space for repairing and storing rail cars. The Mill Creek Railyard, engineered by DiPrete Engineering, features six turnouts and storage for up to 58 rail cars on two parallel sidings, streamlining rail operations and increasing the park’s overall freight-handling capacity. The Davisville Main Connector, also engineered by DiPrete, offers direct access between the Davisville Main Line and the Mill Creek Railyard, significantly reducing transit times within the Business Park. DiPrete Engineering and CHA Consulting collaborated on the engineering and permitting for both the Davisville and Mill Creek projects, while QDC led the efforts for the Engine House.
These projects, which began in 2020, are a testament to the collaborative efforts of many teams. The enhanced infrastructure is set to create a more efficient transportation network, directly benefiting Quonset companies, their customers, and the broader Rhode Island economy. The upgrades to Quonset’s rail system not only boost freight rail capacity but also create a robust foundation for future growth. By increasing the flexibility of Seaview’s rail operations, Quonset is better positioned to attract new businesses and support job creation, strengthening its role as a key economic driver in the region.
At DiPrete Engineering, we are honored to have contributed to this transformative project and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the community for years to come.
