Rhode Island Blood Center Facility

DiPrete Engineering joined forces with Vision 3 Architects to survey, design, and permit the revitalization and expansion of the Rhode Island Blood Center facility in Providence. The improvements included a new 22,000 sf building and parking to support it. The existing swaths of impervious area on the site were enhanced with new architectural elements, including pedestrian walkways and attractive landscape features. The stormwater on the site is treated by a series of landscaped rain gardens and vegetated swales. Roof runoff is directed to decorative tree boxes that filter the stormwater before it leaves the site. The project is a great example of how low-impact development can be incorporated into a redevelopment site.
