The Economic Development Foundation of Rhode Island has teamed up with Northeast Collaborative, Studio TROIKA and DiPrete Engineering to repurpose and transform the old Sheffield School located in Newport into a modern office building known as Innovate Newport. This 13,000 sf, three story building located on Broadway will provide a wide range of high tech office suites, rooms and meeting spaces with the latest technology available.
The $7.1 million project will provide newly developed office space creating opportunities for both new and established companies. Innovate Newport will provide technology specific to applied oceanographic research, defense/cyber applications, environmental and alternative energy research and emerging digital industries.
The team is currently working on the facility’s design-development phase. DiPrete Engineering is providing parking and stormwater improvements as well as landscape design.
“We’ve been helping a lot with regulatory issues by coordinating with the City of Newport and its neighbors,” said Molly Titus, Project Manager at DiPrete Engineering. “We’re also helping to prepare a plan that’s leasable and usable by a variety of businesses.”
The $7.1 million innovation facility is projected to be complete in 2018.
